MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND SECTION NCNW- CHARTERED 1969
Our founder Mary McLeod Bethune founded our organization in 1935 in New York City. She was an educator, philanthropist, humanitarian and civil rights advocate. Dr Bethune once said "Faith is the first factor in a life devoted to service".
For over 50 years Montgomery County Section has continued the legacy of Dr. Bethune by leading, advocating for and empowering women of African descent, their families and communities. Also, our members work collectively to elevate our families through education, collaboration, and community services.
"Our motto is "Serving Is What We Do' and we believe that it is critical to be visible in our communities. Therefore, our members feed the hungry, clothed the needy, care for our senior citizens, help the homeless and mentor young ladies in middle and high schools.
Lastly, I am reminded of Shirley Chisholm's two quotes " Service is the rent we pay for room on this earth", and "Progress is not made by standing on the sideline complaining, you make progress by implementing ideas". Montgomery County Section has faith and ideas that will continue helping and uplifting our youths, families and communities.
Sincerely,
Millie West Wiggins
